Climate Justice in Canada

Climate change is going to impact everyone on the planet, but those impacts are going to be different based on many factors, including where one lives, works, and who she is. Research has shown that people may be impacted differently by climate change based on their gender, race, age and other factors.  This project will explore climate justice in Canada, with an emphasis on the following issues:

  • Gender and Climate in Canada:  How is gender relevant to the development of climate policy in Canada?  Can a gender perspective lead to better climate policies?
  • Environmental Rights and Climate Justice:  Does the right to life guaranteed under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms create a duty on the government to reduce GHG emissions? Does the Charter’s equality guarantee protect those who are disproportionately impacted by climate change against discrimination?
